- Make sure you have your International Yellow Fever Card with you before travelling to Ghana. Health Authorities at the various ports of entry in Ghana are very strict on this. Penalties and fines may be applied if you do not have a valid one with you.
- COVID-19 Guidelines: Even though there has been a remarkable reduction in the number of cases and associated deaths of COVID-19 over the last few months, the disease is still with us and new cases are still being recorded.
It is therefore imperative that we do not drop our guard and continue to be alert and take precautionary and preventive measures against the infection.Below are some guidelines you should consider including COVID-19 protocols currently in place at Ghana’s only International Airport, the Kotoka International Airport.
Pre-arrival/arrival processes for travelers intending to enter Ghana through the Kotoka International Airport

- All international passengers including those from the ECOWAS region must complete a Port Health Declaration Form at https//www.ghs-hdf.org/hdf/ before embarkation of flight to Ghana.
- All persons arriving in Ghana who are fully vaccinated will be exempt from any form of testing done either prior to boarding from originating country or on arrival in Ghana EXCEPT PASSENGERS ORIGINATING THEIR JOURNEY FROM CHINA.
- Passengers originating their journeys from China will be required to present a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test results 48 hours prior to departure from the originating country. In addition, such passengers will be required to undergo mandatory COVID-19 testing on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport but at no cost to the individuals.
- All other passengers originating their journeys from elsewhere, other than China, who are partially vaccinated or unvaccinated will be required to present a valid negative COVID-19 PCR test results 48 hours prior to departure from originating country. In addition, such passengers will be required to undergo mandatory COVID-19 testing on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport but at no cost to the individuals.
- In addition to the above, passengers may be randomly selected and offered test on arrival.
- Non-Ghanaians travelling to Ghana through the Kotoka International Airport with fake or forged vaccinating certificates shall be quarantined and returned to their points of embarkation at their own cost.
- All arriving passengers will undergo temperature screening, yellow fever card verification and COVOD-19 vaccination certificate verification as required.
- Exemptions:
- Children less than 18 years are exempt from mandatory vaccination, pre=departure PCR testing and testing on arrival in Ghana.
- Airline crew are exempted from the pre-departure and arrival COVID-19 testing and should follow the airline policy for testing.
- Passengers who arrive under emergency circumstances such as diverted flights will not be required to undergo testing if they do not leave the airport or remain in isolation in their hotels.
- Departure processes:
- Passengers departing Accra will be required to adhere to COVID-19 testing requirements for their destination countries.
- Departing passengers will undergo temperature screening at the entrance of Terminal 3 departures.
- Wearing of nose masks
- Wearing of nose masks is recommended in all airport terminals and ancillary buildings.
- Vaccination
- Definition of fully vaccinated – a person is said to be fully vaccinated when he/she has taken the full dose of vaccines approved and registered by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Ghana or other vaccines prequalified by WHO.
- All passengers must present a valid COVID-19 vaccination certificate showing that they were fully vaccinated at least 14 days before embarkation except partially vaccinated or unvaccinated Ghanaians who are required to resent a negative 48hours PCR test result to the airline before embarkation and to Port Health on arrival.

In addition to the above guidelines on COVID-19, all Rotarians, friends and attendees to the DTAC are encouraged to follow the following precautionary measures in relation to COVID -19.
- Wearing of face masks when appropriate or when you find yourself in situations or environments that are high risk for the spread of infections, especially COVID-19.
- Regular and frequent handwashing or the use of alcohol-base sanitizers as required.
- Ensuring adequate spacing and distancing as appropriate or as prevailing conditions will dictate.
Include the following in your basic first aid kit if possible:
- Anti-septic
- Painkillers
- wound-cleaning gauze
- Sterile dressings
- Bandage tape
- Plasters
- Tweezers
- Scissors
- Thermometer
- Anti-histamines
- Insect repellent
- Insect bite treatment
- Medication for any pre-existing medical conditions
- Malaria prophylactic drugs for travelers from non-endemic countries.
- If you have International Health Insurance or Travel Health Insurance, please travel with it as it may be very helpful during your stay here. Paying out of pocket for medical care in Ghana can be quite expensive. Any form of insurance that is acceptable in Ghana will be useful.
- It is very essential that you carry adequate quantities of all medications for any pre-existing medical conditions and ensure you continue to take your medications and observe any other medical advice or instructions given by your regular health care provider throughout your stay in Accra.
- If you have any problems or concerns with your regular medications or health condition, please do well to alert the DTAC Medical Sub-committee as soon as possible.
- If you unexpectedly run out of medications or lose your medications, kindly alert the DTAC Medical Sub-committee as soon as possible.
- The temperatures in Accra can reach up to 33°c and thus it is advisable to carry and drink lot of water during your stay in Ghana to prevent dehydration.
- Avoid the following foods during your stay in Accra to prevent any Gastrointestinal infections:
- Uncooked fruits and vegetables, unless they have been washed in safe water by yourself.
- Un-pasteurized milk, cheese, ice cream and other dairy products. Always check the label and the expiry dates of pasteurized dairy products.
- Raw or undercooked shellfish or seafood.
- Food from street traders, unless it was recently prepared in hygienic conditions
